Why CBD-A?

Among the most frequently asked questions that I get when I talk about the products that I make are "What is CBD-A?" and "Why do you use it in FloRxa products?"

As to the "What...?" CBD-A stands for Cannabidiolic acid. It is the pre-cursor of the more commonly known CBD (Cannabidiol), the "neutral" form of the molecule. The acid forms of cannabinoids are what the plant produces. These forms tend to be unstable at high temperatures. It is the same for THC-A (an molecule with anti-inflammatory properties) and THC (the psychoactive cannabinoid). Eating the plant provides access to the acid forms of these molecules, and heating the plant matter as part of the consumption process turns it into the neutral form.

As to the "Why...?" Recent studies have shown that CBD-A is stronger than CBD for certain therapeutic applications. For example, studies in animal models showed that CBD-A was 1000x more potent than CBD at targeting receptors crucial for regulating nausea and anxiety than CBD. Another study found CBD-A to be 100 times more potent than CBD in a pain and inflammation through COX-2 inhibition, without targeting COX-1, the receptor associated with gastrointestinal side effects of traditional anti-inflammatory drugs like NSDAIDs.
